The Research Study Assistant will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators on clinical research projects and will work independently and effectively to produce high quality research, documents, communication and overall coordination.


SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTIONS (will include but are not limited to :)

  • Assisting with participants recruitment and informed consent activities
  • Medical chart review and data abstraction
  • Assisting with the collection, management and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Assisting with database creation and maintenance
  • Assist supervising Principal Investigators in preparing reports of study progress.
  • Assisting with preparation of written materials: research ethics board applications and reports, consent forms, manuscripts, research reports, poster and presentation submissions.
  • Engagement with the lead investigators, research team, and clinical providers throughout the research process.
  • Usually works from/with standard procedures and practices and will assist in improving new ones or in modifying existing methods, practices and procedures.
  • Tasks are limited in number and are of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintain study documents and other research files.
  • Help with general clinical study organization including archiving and filing


  • Bachelor’s degree in health related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an academic or clinical/ research setting


  • Ability to understand and interpret scientific data
  • Good understanding of medical terminology and research methods
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office programs
  • High level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, excellent organization,  and prioritization skills
  • Must be self-directed and possess a strong initiative to work independently
  • Excellent problem solving skills required
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team in a health care setting an asset
  • Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, such as ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki and FDA CFR and Health Canada TPD, as required
  • Knowledge of IATA shipping regulations and basic laboratory procedures, as required
