Department Description:

Research in the lab is focused on understanding the biology of the glucagon-like peptides. Specific projects include physiological analyses of gut hormone action through studies of their respective receptors in preclinical studies.

Lab staff utilize a combination of techniques that involve cell culture, studies of signal, transduction, cell proliferation and apoptosis, with a major emphasis on generation and phenotypic analysis of mice with disruption of gut hormone action.  The lab employs mouse models to delineate novel concepts of gut hormone action with potential therapeutic relevance.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician.  The ideal candidate will also allocate 10% of their time for maintaining the smooth operation of the day-to-day lab operations

Responsibilities:

  • The position involves research in mice, including genetically modified mouse lines, which require experience in breeding, weaning and genotyping
  • Responsible for performing complex mouse phenotyping experiments, including biochemical, RNA, and histological analyses
  • Ensure laboratory operations including procurement, installation and disposal of instrumentation, maintenance of equipment and instrumentation in working order, preventative maintenance, negotiation for quotes and service contract renewals
  • Support the preparation of grant budgets
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, technical and animal facility requirements that oversee research conduct in the lab
  • Distribution and maintenance of relevant regulatory documents including protocol study manuals, SOPs and other study-specific tools and resources
  • Assist in preparation of protocols for appropriate use of animals, chemical, reagents
  • Supervise and delegate shared lab duties for the efficient operation of the lab

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with 5 plus years of experience
  • Experience with mouse metabolic phenotyping in mouse models of cardiometabolic and intestinal disease preferred
  • Must have a practical understanding of molecular biology and whole animal physiology
  • Candidate should have a strong record in and experience with mouse metabolic physiology, colony management and phenotyping
  • The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and record keeping skills
  • Must be a team player
