FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW
Sinai Health is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Geriatrics research team in January or February 2026. This one-year position is renewable based on funding and academic productivity, where the fellow will be mentored and encouraged to apply for other available sources of funding. The fellow will be provided with an on-site workspace at 600 University Avenue (Mount Sinai Hospital) (with some remote work possible).
The fellow will focus on two key projects:
- Family-centered care models for older adults living with HIV.
- Implementation of medication review interventions for older adults living with HIV in long-term care (LTC) settings.
The position combines implementation science, community-based health services research, and knowledge translation, with opportunities to engage patients, care partners, and interdisciplinary clinical teams in research and co-design activities. Opportunities for professional development include publishing, presenting at scientific meetings, generating project/publication ideas, writing grants, leading mixed-method analyses, and training in new methodological approaches (e.g. co-design).
ORGANIZATION AND DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Geriatrics department at Sinai Health conducts research to improve care for older adults with complex health needs. The team collaborates across disciplines, hospitals, LTC, and community settings to advance evidence-based care, optimize health outcomes, and strengthen patient and caregiver experiences.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Kristina Kokorelias (PhD) and Dr. Luxey Sirisgearam (MD). Responsibilities include:
- Conducting qualitative interviews with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
- Designing and administering quantitative surveys.
- Participating in co-design activities with patients, caregivers, and clinical teams.
- Supporting study design, ethics applications, participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis.
- Leading publications, reports, and knowledge translation activities, including presentations and workshops.
- Mentoring trainees and contributing to interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Supporting grant applications and project funding proposals.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop an independent research plan aligned with two HIV/aging projects.
- Support all stages of research including protocol development, data collection, and analysis.
- Leading qualitative (e.g. interviewing) and quantitative (e.g. surveys) data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Work with individuals with lived experience to co-design the research process, including our lead patient advisor and investigator.
- Lead and support scholarly outputs and knowledge translation activities.
- Engage patients, care partners, and healthcare providers in research and co-design processes.
- Collaborate with clinical and research teams across Sinai Health and affiliated health system partners.
- Ability to manage complex projects, including stakeholder management
- Knowledge translation, communication, and presentation (e.g. creating visual data briefs, conference presentations/posters, and manuscripts for publication)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- PhD degree (within the past three years) or scheduled defense date in health sciences, rehabilitation sciences, health policy and management, social work, or related discipline is required
- Experience conducting literature reviews (e.g. scoping, systematic, meta-analysis)
- Experience working directly with patients, care partners, and healthcare providers.
- Interest in community-based participatory research with diverse older adults.
- Outstanding research track record as evidenced by publications in high impact journals in the fields of rehabilitation, health services, health/social care, and/or implementation science
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across hospital, LTC, and community settings.
- Experience conducting qualitative interviews with a variety of participants, including health care providers, senior healthcare leaders, care recipients, and family caregivers
- Experience with qualitative data analysis, including thematic analysis, qualitative description, and/or framework-guided analyses
- Experience with qualitative data organization/management systems, such as NVivo
- Exposure to survey methodologies and statistical analysis
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Experience with research software (NVivo, EndNote) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Interest in implementation science, models of care, and improving health outcomes for older adults with HIV.
- Strong scholarly record (publications, presentations); experience with research funding is an asset.
