DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The goals of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Silverberg’s research program are to identify susceptibility genes and biomarkers for IBD and to explain the contribution of these markers to its etiology and clinical course. More recently, we are also investigating the host microbiome in association with complex disease.

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a temporary, full-time Research Assistant to work on clinical and translational research studies within the PI’s research team at the Centre for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and LTRI at Mount Sinai Hospital. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, but must be able to work independently and effectively to produce high quality research, documents, communication and overall coordination.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with Investigators, the research team, and the health care team in the coordination of clinical & translational research
- Quickly develop a strong understanding of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), related surgical procedures, medications, and associated medical terminology.
- Assist with studies, which includes subject identification and recruitment, obtaining informed consent, clinical assessment for study eligibility, study education, sample collection and follow-up with participants.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining study documents and other research files including study-related logs
- Participate in the recruitment of eligible patients through the informed consent process and coordinate study follow-up visits and activities.
- Collect and enter clinical and research data using paper, research databases, REDCaP, Excel
- Perform necessary quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of entered data
- Report & present on study progress and provide verbal & written updates
- Assist with the preparation of Research Ethics applications and amendments, if required
- Assist with the facilitation of study logistics within the clinical environment and with other departments at Sinai Health
- Ensure studies follow Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS2), and Research Ethics Board (REB) guidelines
- Manage priorities and meet study deadlines
- Participate in meetings and perform other tasks as assigned
- Report to the Project Manager and the Principal Investigator
- Work independently, effectively and efficiently & work as a team member
- Flexibility to work a 7.5-hour day, with occasional adjustments to start and end times to accommodate patient appointments and study requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in sciences or a health-related discipline. Postgraduate clinical research diploma is an asset
- Minimum of one-year clinical research experience
- Previous experience interacting with study participants/patients
Required Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Existing phlebotomy certification, or willingness to learn
- Familiarity working with confidential information; maintaining professionalism, diplomacy and tact under high pressure situations
- High degree of computer literacy and extensive experience with Microsoft Office (Word, and Excel)
- Autonomous critical thinking ability, excellent organizational & time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong analytical, judgement and problem solving skills
- Self-motivated
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required
Pay range: $28.790/hr to $31.667/hr
