ORGANIZATION OR DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Palliative Care of Mount Sinai Hospital provides specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness. In addition, the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital, a University of Toronto affiliated research centre, is one of the world's leading institutes in biomedical research. JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to work on innovative and novel public health research projects to improve care for people living with post COVID-19 condition (PCC). Our team is conducting clinical trials at Mount Sinai Hospital which aim to study, prevent the development of, and treat PCC in adults. The research results will inform and shape public health policies and ultimately be adopted into medical practice. The successful candidate will work on different research projects under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and must be able to work independently and effectively to produce high quality research, documents, communication, and overall coordination.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently performs assigned research and analysis tasks.
  • Coordinates clinical trials with the Investigator and the research team.
  • Plans and implements REB submissions and other aspects of regulatory documentations as per the hospitals polices and guidelines.
  • Collaborates with clinicians in the recruitment of study participants.
  • Executes study related administrative tasks, conducts recruitment interviews and coordinates patients visits and schedules.
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures on study participants.
  • Reviews study related literature and summarize information relevant to assigned project and proposal work.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and interprets study data using methods in the field of public health.
  • Take part in portions of multiple projects. Prepares presentation-quality charts, tables, and reports from data analysis and collaborator meetings.
  • Writes and proofs manuscript and assists with submission of grant proposals.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Degree: Bachelor’s or Master's degree

Discipline(s): Sciences, Public Health, or a Health Services Research

Required skills:                               

  • Minimum of 1 year experience and demonstrated success in a research setting
  • High level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Well-developed time management skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently to complete the collective goals of the team
  • Good judgment and decision making
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

 

Additional assets:

  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Previous work experience in clinical trials and patient recruitment
  • Experience in phlebotomy

 

If this role is in a laboratory environment, Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute’s Safety Requirements include:

  • Maintain personal certifications as required by Safety Office
  • Maintain the lab’s Safety requirements as required by Safety Office
  • Maintain current lab-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) - including work with hazardous chemicals and biological agents, hazardous waste disposal, etc.
  • Maintain the lab’s chemical Inventory
  • Responsible for training the lab members on lab-specific procedures, weekly eye wash checks

 

In accordance with Institute’s policy and legislated health and safety requirements, employment is conditional upon the verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and demonstrating proof of immunity and vaccination status of vaccine-preventable diseases. A recent Provincial Directive mandates all employees of public hospitals in Ontario to be either fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or be regularly tested. All new employees joining Sinai Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and be on track toward full vaccination within six (6) weeks; participating in mandatory twice weekly Rapid Antigen Testing Program until fully vaccinated. There are very limited circumstances in which approval will be given for a medical exemption from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
