Science of Care Institute

The Science of Care Institute is located on the beautiful Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital campus of Sinai Health. It advances discoveries and innovations in how care is co-designed, implemented, and measured. Science of Care Institute is our academic hub for all clinicians (health disciplines, nursing, medicine) or any staff, researcher, learner, or volunteer who wants to be involved in advancing research and innovation associated with care and resilient care environments at Sinai Health and beyond. Our Science of Care Institute aims to ensure the design and delivery of care are evidence-informed and co-designed that is meaningfully and positively experienced by the patients and care partners we serve and provide creative and innovative opportunities to instill joy in work to build back resilience in our entire workforce at Sinai Health in our post-pandemic and human health resources crisis.

Our Science of Care Institute is synergistic with the organization’s leadership, discovery, and basic science research associated with the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI). Our Science of Care Research and Innovation Framework integrates caring, symptom and safety science using team, implementation, improvement, and innovation science to accelerate new models of compassionate, fundamental care and work environment strategies into practice. The Science of Care Institute is in a growth trajectory that builds on a strong foundation of an interdisciplinary team of researchers, clinician-scientists, trainees, and staff affiliated with LTRI working collaboratively to produce high-quality research and innovation to drive health system transformation. LTRI is a University of Toronto-affiliated research centre and one of the world’s leading biomedical and health systems research centres. Our Science of Care Institute and affiliated Centres (e.g. Nursing Excellence) and LTRI are committed to excellence in health research and the training of all stages of scientists (e.g. early to senior). Strong partnerships with the clinical programs in our hospitals and our health system partners ensure that scientific knowledge is used to promote human health and health system improvement.

 

Job Description

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment. Each day will offer diverse chances to utilize your research and project coordination skills, enabling you to acquire new knowledge and research methods. This position aligns with several work streams by Principal Investigators Drs Michelle Nelson and Marianne Saragosa. A key focus of this role is understanding the impact of community-oriented approaches to care at the interface of volunteerism and digital connections.

To be successful in this role, the candidate must be willing to work in a fast-paced lab supporting the delivery of expected (e.g., REB submissions/amendments, collecting and analyzing data, etc.) and emerging deliverables (e.g., grants, publications, etc.) and knowledge translation strategies (e.g., conference abstracts, briefs/reports, etc.). The candidate must also exhibit excellent relational and communication abilities essential for thriving in this high-performing team.

 

Responsibilities

This position includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate project and research-related activities
  • Support systematic scoping reviews, environmental scans, document analysis
  • Support data input, monitoring and management according to study processes
  • Liaise with project partners and patient/caregiver advisors as needed
  • Contribute to the development of research protocols, grants and research ethics board submissions with the supervisor
  • Lead participant recruitment, data collection, transcription, and analysis using qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Ensure studies are conducted according to regulatory and institutional guidelines
  • Support publications and report writing as well as support other knowledge translation activities (e.g., symposia, newsletters, website content)
  • Assist in the preparation of study results for reports, presentations, and publications
  • Miscellaneous other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of a University Degree with a Health Sciences focus from an accredited educational institution
  • Minimum of 2 years of related research experience in healthcare and/or research environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based research principles and methodologies as related to the development, implementation and evaluation of innovation (e.g. codesign methods, technology design, technology implementation)
  • Demonstrated ability in using and learning diverse software packages, especially reference management software and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with research-specific software (Covidence, NVivo, SPSS, SAS) are considered an asset
  • Superior written/oral communication and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; works well independently, uses good judgment, and takes initiative
  • Excellent time management, organizational and self-planning skills, displaying flexibility by adjusting work schedules according to changing priorities, meeting demanding deadlines and producing high-quality work
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
