Science of Care Institute
The Science of Care Institute and Centre for Nursing Excellence is located on the beautiful Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital campus of Sinai Health and is advancing new discoveries and innovation in how care is co-designed, implemented, and measured. Science of Care Institute is our academic hub for all clinicians (health disciplines, nursing, medicine) or any staff, researcher, learner, or volunteer who wants to be involved in advancing research and innovation associated with care and resilient care environments at Sinai Health and beyond. Our Science of Care Institute aims to ensure the design and delivery of care is evidence informed and co-designed that is meaningfully and positively experienced by our patients and care partners we serve and provide creative and innovative opportunities to instill joy in work to build back resilience in our entire workforce at Sinai Health in our post pandemic and human health resources crisis. Our Science of Care Institute is synergistic to the organization’s leadership and discovery and basic science research associated with Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI).
Our Science of Care Research and Innovation Framework focuses on the integration of caring, symptom and safety science using team, implementation, improvement, and innovation science to accelerate new models of compassionate, fundamental care and work environment strategies into practice. The Science of Care Institute is in a growth trajectory that builds on a strong foundation of an inter-disciplinary team of researchers, clinician-scientists, trainees and staff affiliated with LTRI working collaboratively to produce high quality research and innovation to drive health system transformation. LTRI is a University of Toronto affiliated research centre and is one of the world’s leading centres in biomedical and health systems research. Our Science of Care Institute and affiliated Centre for Nursing Excellence and LTRI are committed to excellence in health research and the training of all stages of scientists (e.g. early to senior). Strong partnerships with the clinical programs in our hospitals and with our health system partners ensures that scientific knowledge is used to promote human health and health system improvement. As Canada’s only Magnet-designated hospital, we are committed to nurse-led research and innovation to exceed the Magnet standard related to New Knowledge and innovation. Sinai Health was redesignated as a Magnet Hospital in December 2020, meeting all the required standards.
Job Description
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment. Every day will provide a range of opportunities to use your diverse research, administration, and project coordination skills and will allow you to develop new knowledge and research techniques. Although you will work under the supervision of the Manager. Research & Innovation with the general direction of the Chief Scientific Officer, you will collaborate with all Principal Investigators, managers and research teams across the Science of Care Institute and Centre for Nursing Excellence to support research studies and innovation activities across interconnected topic areas including fundamental compassionate models of care across our healthcare ecosystems and complex care populations; agile and equitable innovation; workforce resilience and Magnet specific nurse led research and innovation; organizational learning and system performance; and collaborative partnerships both within and beyond Sinai Health. Through this role, you will be part of a vibrant research and innovation community assisting with the execution and ongoing monitoring of research projects (e.g. ethics and grant applications, participant recruitment, data analysis -quantitative and qualitative, and knowledge translation activities) and assisting with Science of Care Institute and Centre for Nursing Excellence’s research and innovation capacity building programming.
Responsibilities
This position includes the following key responsibilities:
- Assists Principal Investigators (PIs), research staff and trainees in the development of research protocols, grants and research ethics board submissions
- Participates in research activities such as participant recruitment, data collection, transcription, and assists the research teams (PIs, trainees, etc.) with analysis using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Assists in document analysis and literature reviews.
- When participating in the conduct of research studies upholds regulatory and institutional guidelines.
- Assists with publications and report writing as well as other knowledge translation activities (e.g., symposia, newsletters, website content, presentations, and publications
- Miscellaneous other duties and projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Successful completion of a University Degree with a Health Sciences, from an accredited educational institution.
- Minimum of a one year of related research experience in healthcare and/or research environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-informed research principles and methodologies as well as participant recruitment and qualitative data collection.
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access) and Microsoft Teams/Zoom are essential. Must be internet savvy.
- Additional software knowledge such as Adobe Professional, Illustrator, Photo Shop, Microsoft Project, RedCAP, Endnote and experience with research specific software (Covidence, NVivo, SPSS, SAS) are considered an asset.
- Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills; works well independently, uses good judgment, and takes initiative.
- Excellent time management, organizational and self-planning skills displaying flexibility by adjusting work schedules according to changing priorities, meeting demanding deadlines and producing high quality work.
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record.
