The Neonatal Hemodynamics Research Program, under the Department of Paediatrics, is dedicated to improving clinical care and reducing the burden of cardiovascular and neurological disease in preterm neonates. A leader in the field of neonatal echocardiography, the primary goals of the program are to enable enhanced diagnostic precision to improve clinical decision making and to identify best practices in newborn intensive care to achieve better cardiorespiratory and neurological outcomes for these fragile infants. The program also encompasses research in acute and chronic respiratory illnesses in preterm infants.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Clinical Research Manager but must be able to work independently and effectively.

The successful candidate will:

  • Perform initial screening of patients via charts and electronic medical records to determine eligibility for participation in clinical trials and prospective observational studies
  • Approach families for informed consent in the Neonatal Intensive Care, Antenatal High Risk, and Labour & Delivery units for their newborns’ participation in research studies, often within short recruitment windows
  • Organize study procedures by liaising with clinical teams for ultrasound, brain monitoring, respiratory, laboratory and pharmacy orders
  • Collect and enter data from electronic medical records into electronic study databases and maintain study logs
  • Ensure strict compliance with the study protocols and applicable standard operating procedures
  • Establish and maintain regular and strong working relationships with families, research team members and clinical staff
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative for all projects within the research team’s portfolio. The incumbent may be assigned other duties as directed by the supervising investigator or Clinical Research Manager.
