ORGANIZATION:
The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital, a University of Toronto affiliated research center, is one of the world's leading centers in biomedical research. With ground-breaking discoveries in research areas such as diabetes, genetic disorders, cancer, and women's and infant health, the Institute is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators. Strong partnerships with the clinical programs of Mount Sinai Hospital ensure that scientific knowledge is used to promote human health. Your significant contributions will assist in maintaining our momentum in advancing our research.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Stewart lab at Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute/Sinai Health investigates how tissues, such as the skin, respond to cell death in homeostasis and disease settings. They have a specific interest in how tissue stem cells are affected by the death of neighbouring cells, which can result in stem cells “eating” their dying neighbours, or potentially by tuning their self-renewal, differentiation, or proliferative behaviour. To understand how these potential mechanisms can occur in homeostasis, damage and disease, the Stewart lab uses mouse models, complimented with adult stem cell culture and human-derived samples.
The position will be available as an initial one-year temporary, full-time contract (commensurate with experience and qualifications, and consistent with LTRI compensation policy). A minimum of two year commitment is preferred, with the option to extend and/or transition to a permanent full-time.

- Maintain up-to-date laboratory records relating to their duties (eg. notebook or electronic logs relating to tissue culture, mouse colony, and purchasing)
- Assist with training and guiding other
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a biomedical science field (eg. Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, etc.) or equivalent skills and related experience.
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience in health research setting is preferred, zero years research experience will also be considered.
- Laboratory courses in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or similar are a plus, as are research experience with animals and/or tissue culture techniques.
- Effective organizational, time-management and prioritization skills
