With ground-breaking discoveries in research areas such as women’s and infants’ health, cancer, diabetes, and genetic disorders, the Institute is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators. Strong partnerships with the clinical programs of Mount Sinai Hospital ensure that scientific knowledge is used to promote human health. Your significant contributions will assist in maintaining our momentum in advancing our research.
Position Description
We are a cancer systems biology lab that studies the spatial organization of tumors using spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed imaging of patient samples, as well as by ex vivo modeling of tumor organization. Our goal is to uncover recurring spatial patterns and organizational principles in tumors and exploit them to develop more effective cancer treatments. We are seeking a creative and curiosity-driven scientist to join our group.
Job Responsibilities:
- Spatial profiling of patient tumor samples by spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed imaging including sample preparation and sectioning, library generation, immunostaining, and imaging
- Development and application of cell line, cancer organoid, and other ex vivo systems to model and/or functionally perturb tumor organization
- Plan experiments in consultation with PI
- Perform research, analyze results, and present findings
- Train other lab members and manage daily lab operations, including inventory and placing orders
- Responsible for ensuring biosafety procedures
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. (with 5+ years’ experience) or a Ph.D. (preferred) in biology with experience in cell culture, histology, microscopy/imaging, genomics/transcriptomics, and standard genetics techniques.
- Experience in organoid generation and maintenance, spatial-omics, single-cell RNA sequencing, and CRISPR screens would all be a significant advantage.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency to train and support other lab members in the following areas: histology (sample preparation and sectioning, staining), imaging, cell culture and organoid maintenance, and transcriptomics (including library generation for spatial transcriptomics and single-cell RNA sequencing).
- Strong interest in cancer biology and excellent organizational skills.
- Independent thinker and team player.
In accordance with Institute’s policy and legislated health and safety requirements, employment is conditional upon the verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and demonstrating proof of immunity and vaccination status of vaccine-preventable diseases.
