Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute is one of the world’s leading centers in biomedical research. The research activities are focused around understanding the function of human genes and how genetic pathways and environmental factors lead to the development of human diseases. The research programs at Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum make extensive use of genomics, proteomics and related technologies. A Research Coordinator I position is available at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum with a focus on investigation of the underlying genetic susceptibility factors associated with COVID-19. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct cutting-edge bioinformatics research, develop novel methodologies and apply bioinformatics tools in a multidisciplinary setting.

 

LAB DESCRIPTION

The Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (AMD) at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH), Sinai Health System, is a clinically certified laboratory that conducts molecular diagnostic testing for the Greater Toronto Area and the province of Ontario and serves as an international reference centre for molecular diagnostics.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with various research projects, such as coordinating the flow of work for one main project or multiple projects, and act as a source of information for research activities on a regular basis. They may also assist with writing manuscripts for publication. The successful candidate will join our multidisciplinary community in biomedical informatics, statistical omics, clinical and digital health. Potential candidates should also have demonstrable experience in informatics techniques, data sciences and statistics. This may include methods in bioinformatics, health informatics, data sciences, and applications of data analytics to health and medical data. In addition, the successful candidate will assist with coordinating the flow of work for one main project or multiple projects and acts as a source of information for research activities on a regular basis.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaise with internal and external researchers, acting as a point of contact between various teams, departments, or research groups to assist with the flow of information, and helping to inform involved parties about project updates, changes, and requirements. E.g., sending reminders about project deadlines/important dates, facilitating data transfers, etc.
  • Develop project/study protocols and other materials (e.g. questionnaires, data forms, etc.), maintain confidential and accurate project records, and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) are kept up-to-date
  • Assist in data management through internal hospital systems (LIS, Epic, Meditech, etc.); ensuring data is collected and stored properly, and in compliance with data security and access policies
  • Assist with the overall coordination of a research study or project(s), including coordinating day-to-day activities and managing project deadlines
  • Collaborate in publication authorship, literature reviews, submitting grant applications, REB submissions, manuscripts, seminar presentations, and reports
  • Plan, implement and coordinate all aspects of data collection, documentation and audits
  • Establish administrative-level contacts and maintain on-going relationships with relevant institutions/ hospitals, universities and funding agencies

 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, M.Sc. as an asset with 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills; and proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work efficiently and effectively with other staff members
  • Prior experience with patient recruitment, data management, and/or study coordination is an asset
  • Familiarity with online software platforms and databases for sharing and interpreting genomic data (e.g., Franklin, ClinVar, etc.)
  • Experience obtaining informed consent for research studies, obtaining Research Ethics Board (REB) approval for study protocol and amendments, and maintaining accurate participant records, grant writing
  • Experience working with genomic sequencing data, bioinformatics, statistics, data science, and applied health research is an asset
  • General bioinformatics experience or familiarity in any of the following programming languages is an asset: python, R, Unix systems (Bash), Java, databases, etc.

Salary: Starting at $31.997 per hour.
