POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our MSF team works to create a welcoming and safe place for our patients. Subsequently, the clinic is offering an online group to patients at Mount Sinai Fertility (MSF). Participation in an online group can result in collective agency while helping people feel less isolated and misunderstood. Your role of Research Assistant I (Qualitative) and the MSF Peer Group as a whole strives to ensure patients have a voice, feel heard, and are able to express and normalize the various feelings that can arise while trying to have a child.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect participant data by monitoring the Peer Group site on a daily basis to gather information on participant experience
- Organize and conduct qualitative focus groups by leading one-hour live discussions with group members about different relevant topics once a week
- Prepare detailed notes of interactions with participants and transfer qualitative data to assist in the creation of ideas for MSF employees to provide information and presentations for the Peer Group
- Assist in qualitative analysis of data to identify themes MSF patients are coping with and utilize these themes to enrich the group
- Demonstrate an understanding of the issues underlying the fertility journey
- Create talking points, communicate information, and/or create discussion topics daily for patients to respond to
- Coordinate necessary data flow and liaise with MSF team members to share, gather or disseminate participant experience where applicable
- Respond to, advocate for, and liaise with individual group members when appropriate either in the group context or outside of the group
- Link members to resources and MSF team members as required/appropriate
- Identify additional needs for members and provide outside referral information as appropriate
- Ensure the group feels transparent, informative, supportive, effective, and safe through the encouragement of participation and offering an inviting space within the group
- Facilitate challenging situations and mediate problems within the larger group or between individual group members
- Address misinformation promptly and respectfully
- Address sensitive content which may be offensive, derogatory, misguided, or in any way inappropriate
- Keep consistent statistics of the group and ensure regular evaluation of the effectiveness of the group (self-evaluation and evaluation provided by the group will be included)
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field with 1+ years of relevant experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Clear awareness of potential personal biases and ensure these do not affect professional conduct
- A non-judgemental and open approach to all patients
- Strong ally of all communities including the LGBTQI2S and indigenous communities
- Comfortable working remotely and independently while being part of a larger team
- Ability to monitor several information flows simultaneously
- Self-driven, creative, and passionate
- Training and experience in fertility required
- Efficiency with social media and Online Forums (facebook in particular)
- Experience with group facilitation preferred
- Strong understanding of the English language is required
- Training and experience in groupwork preferred
Salary range: $54,900 - $60,390
In accordance with Institute’s policy and legislated health and safety requirements, employment is conditional upon the verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and demonstrating proof of immunity and vaccination status of vaccine-preventable diseases.
