POSITION OVERVIEW
The Biospecimen Repository and Processing Laboratory of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute provides biospecimen processing, DNA extraction and sample storage services for multiple research studies for internal and external investigators.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform sample retrieval and distribution activities in the assigned laboratory in accordance with laboratory manuals and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Working with and maintaining the integrity of frozen samples
- Accurate data entry and record keeping
- Timely reporting of results as defined by established Q.A. standards.
- Maintain preventive maintenance program including equipment repair records.
- Maintain Quality Control records according to QA standards.
- Know and comply with current WHMIS, biosafety and fire regulations.
- Participate in implementation of new policies and procedures and equipment.
- Participate in ordering supplies and maintenance of inventory.
- Demonstrate competence with laboratory computer systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Laboratory Assistant Technician Certificate with 1 to 2 years of experience
- Experience with blood sample management
- Experience working with mechanical and Liquid nitrogen freezers (an asset)
- Experience working with frozen samples (an asset)
- Familiarity with molecular genetic techniques
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills including verbal, written and electronic
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Able to function well within a team setting
- Self-directed, highly motivated and results driven
- Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
- Must be available from 8am to 8pm (7.5 consecutive hours per day).
Hourly pay range: $25.356 – 27.903
