Established through the visionary philanthropy of Heather Reisman and Gerry Schwartz, SREMI has built an outstanding environment for emergency medicine research by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting investigator-led discovery, and translating evidence into practice. The Institute's researchers are internationally recognized for their contributions across clinical research, health services research and health systems innovation. Through partnerships across Sinai Health, the University of Toronto, and national and international research networks, SREMI is advancing the science of emergency medicine while training the next generation of clinician scientists.
SREMI is seeking to recruit a Clinician Investigator/Scientist in Emergency Medicine to join its internationally recognized research community. This full-time appointment is expected to begin October 1, 2027, or on another mutually agreed-upon date.
The successful candidate will also be eligible for a clinical appointment and role within the emergency department at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health, and an academic appointment at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto at a rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional investigator with demonstrated academic excellence who will establish or expand innovative, independent research or education programs focused on improving the care of patients in emergency departments.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment and will be expected to develop internationally recognized, externally funded programs that advance the science and practice of emergency medicine.
Preference will be given to applicants whose research aligns with SREMI's existing strengths or advances our mission through innovative approaches to emergency care. We welcome applications across the full spectrum of emergency medicine research, including, but not limited to:
- Clinical and health services research

Research Environment

Clinical Practice and Academic Appointment
This recruitment is intended for a clinician investigator/scientist who will combine outstanding research with excellence in clinical care. The successful candidate will hold privileges at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health and will be expected to maintain an active clinical practice.
Protected research time (50-70% if clinician scientist or 30-50% if clinician investigator) will be provided through a combination of institutional support and external research funding. The balance of research and clinical responsibilities will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, career stage, research program, and funding portfolio.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold an MD (or equivalent medical degree) and be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada or possess equivalent qualifications that would support a Professional Staff Appointment at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health.
Applicants should have completed advanced research training (e.g., MSc, MPH, PhD, ScD, or equivalent) or demonstrate equivalent research experience and must have a record of research excellence appropriate to their career stage.
Evidence of excellence includes:
- A strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
- Presentations at major national and international scientific meetings
- Research awards and scholarly recognition
- Success developing innovative research programs
- Strong letters of reference
- Evidence of scientific leadership, collaboration, and innovation
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in securing competitive external research funding and experience leading interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.
