POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Paediatrics of Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the largest academic centres for neonatal care in the country. We are seeking a temporary part time (12 month contract) Biostatistician to support the Neonatology clinical research program and work on Artificial-Intelligence projects.
The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators but must be able to work independently and effectively.
The successful candidate will:
- Extract, clean, and harmonize clinical and health administrative data from EHR systems and hospital databases
- Design, develop, and validate machine learning models to support clinical decision-making, risk prediction, or diagnostic tasks
- Collaborate with clinicians and researchers to define problem statements and ensure model outputs are clinically meaningful
- Manage REB submissions and amendments as needed for AI projects, and ensure compliance with privacy regulations when handling patient data
- Document methodology and contribute to manuscripts, reports, and grant submissions
- Present findings to interdisciplinary teams including clinicians and hospital administrators
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative for projects within the Department’s portfolio. The incumbent may be assigned other duties as directed by the supervising investigators.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Master’s degree in statistics with 3 to 5 years of experience (PhD preferred)
Required skills and experience:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Experience developing machine learning models applied to healthcare or clinical datasets
- Proficiency in Python, with experience using standard ML libraries (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Familiarity with clinical data structures (EHR, clinical notes) and REB/ethics processes
- Strong communication skills and experience working within multidisciplinary research teams
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or conferences
Additional assets:
- Familiarity with and/or interest in Pediatrics/ Neonatology
