At Machine Learning and Radiomics Lab at Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto), we conduct high-throughput research in design and development of innovative artificial intelligence solutions for medical image and data analytics, which enable the design, discovery, and validation of quantitative imaging biomarkers (radiomics) for precision medicine for cancer. The data sources are centered around medical imaging modalities such as MRI and CT. To enable fast-paced research in deep learning for medical imaging, our lab has access to high-performance computing platforms such as standalone GPUs as well as NVIDIA DGX AI Supercomputer. 


The successful candidate will work on research projects focused on developing innovative statistical predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and medical image analytics solutions for diagnosis (identification, detection, and classification) and prognosis (survival analysis) of different types of cancer such as prostate, kidney, and pancreatic cancer using MRI and CT modalities. She/he will work effectively with the lab members to produce high quality research, algorithms, codes, manuscripts, and documents.


  • Algorithm Design and Development for Statistical Modeling (e.g., Survival Analysis), Medical Image Analysis, and Machine Learning Solutions

  • Design and Development of Machine Learning Solutions for Medical Imaging for Cancer Diagnosis and Prognosis

  • Biomedical Image and Data Analytics for Risk-Stratified Cancer Care

  • Medical database collection and management using Microsoft Access

  • Preparing scientific manuscripts and reports

  • Perform necessary quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of the research data

  • Contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations of the lab  


  • Last year student or BSc graduate in Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in an academic or clinical/lab setting


  • Strong background in statistical analysis and machine learning

  • Strong background in artificial intelligence-driven solutions for medical imaging

  • Strong background in medical image analysis

  • Strong scientific programming skills with R for statistical analysis

  • Strong scientific programming skills with Python for machine learning and medical imaging algorithm design

  • Prior research-based publication

  • Excellent technical writing for scientific publications

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Ability to work well with a team and to use initiative in achieving goals

  • Ability to understand and interpret scientific data

  • Good understanding of medical terminology and research methods

  • High level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
