POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Genomic data analyst will be responsible for enrolling and obtaining consent forms from study participants, as well as interpreting and reporting results for exome and genome sequencing.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing various projects and writing manuscripts for publication. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with local clinics to enroll and consent study participants for exome and genome sequencing

  • Responsible for  retrieving and sending out samples for research and clinical exome sequencing

  • Collaborate with Bioinformatician and use data sharing software platforms to analyze and interpret exome and genome sequencing results

  • Draft and issue reports for exome and genome sequencing results

  •  Project management – provide oversight of ongoing projects including exome sequencing and data sharing initiatives, e.g. facilitating meetings, planning workload and scheduling

  •  Liaise with internal and external health care providers to ensure continuity of care through counselling, testing, results and follow-up.

  •  Maintain confidential and accurate records and ensure completion of databases

  • Participate in the ongoing quality improvement activities to improve service and participate in professional development educational programs

  •  Opportunity to get involved in research activities related to this work including publication and grant applications

 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.Sc.

  • Experience interpreting genomic variants based on current standards for variant interpretation and preparing reports

  • Familiarity with online software platforms for sharing and interpreting genomic data

  • Research experience, including experience obtaining informed consent, obtaining Research Ethics Board approval for study protocol and amendments, and maintaining accurate participant records, grant writing

  • Previous experience working in a research setting involving exome sequencing

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work efficiently and effectively with other staff members
