POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Research Associate I will work under the direction of the study investigator and in strict adherence to the research protocols and ethical and privacy guidelines, you will promote the study and execute all aspects of the study protocol.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the design and development of case report forms, questionnaires, and other study related or source documents as required to meet site and protocol requirements.
  • Exercises professional judgment in regulatory conduct of research activities, and ensures adherence to local, national and international regulations on conduct of research studies (PIPA, PIPEDA, ICH/GCP). 
  • Builds and fosters effective working relationships with other study personnel and staff at collaborating sites. 
  • Pays strict attention to detail, maintains a high level of organization and a strong commitment to meeting study timelines and objectives. 
  • Adheres to work plans that allow project deadlines to be met. 
  • Informs  the research manager or investigator of any serious adverse events (SAEs) or any protocol breeches during the study. 
  • Performs accurate and timely data collection, analysis and responds to study queries as required. 
  • Organizes the procurement of biological specimens and tests required for the study and shipment to the assigned research labs as required.
  • Responds to, answers and/or refers subject questions, concerns, and problems to the research manager or Investigator as appropriate.
  • Assists other study staff as required to meet study timelines and deliverables
  • Supervises activities of research Assistants and students as assigned.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new research staff as required. 
  • Liaises with data managers and RAs for other related studies.
  • Monitors needed supplies for studies, and ensures adequate supplies are available. 
  • Attends staff meetings, teleconferences and education/workshop sessions.
  • Cross covers other studies or research associates when required.
  • Some local travel to other hospitals as required. 
  • May be required to work evenings, and/or weekend hours to accommodate schedules for home visits. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Investigator or manager. 
  • Deviations from protocol or inability to meet established timelines must be reported to investigator or manager as soon as recognized.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in clinical health sciences or related field
  • Experience in acute care hospital or equivalent required
  • Excellent communication and patient teaching skills required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently
  • Experience in research preferred; experience in infectious diseases and asset.
