We welcome application for a Research Coordinator to work with various studies in inflammatory bowel disease. The primary study will involve The PACE National Telemedicine Initiative which is multi-centre initiative in partnership with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to improve access to quality of care for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients.  Housed within the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, the PACE IBD telemedicine program focuses on increasing access to IBD healthcare services in underserved regions of Ontario through telemedicine-based consultations and follow-up care. This is done in conjunction with a research program that evaluates the benefits of the program on IBD patient care and outcomes of disease burden. The successful applicant will also participate in a clinical trial assessing strategies for dysplasia surveillance in IBD.


We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented individual for the position of research coordinator.

The key components of this role:

  • Support of research activities related to telemedicine-based quality initiatives.
  • Support of research activities in other IBD-related studies including observational studies and clinical trials.
  • Support of the clinical activities of the PACE IBD telemedicine program.

This successful candidate person will have excellent organizational skills and will be able to work well within the context of an interdisciplinary clinical and research team.  He/she will have solid communication skills, be very detail oriented, and be able to work independently when the need arises. The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Geoffrey Nguyen (Principal Investigator), and in collaboration with the PACE IBD Telemedicine Coordinator to implement the telemedicine research program and other clinical IBD research studies.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Aid in the recruitment and/or scheduling of research participants;
  • Administration and collection of research questionnaires and consents; follow up with participants post-treatment and implement retention strategies;
  • Perform semi-technical procedures such as collecting and measuring samples, recording data, etc.;
  • Troubleshoot and provide onsite technical assistance to any participant concerns with the online data collection system;
  • Prepare and/or review grant materials, including budgets, contracts and project timelines;
  • Prepare written correspondence, reports and presentations using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook;
  • Perform other general office-related duties as required (e.g., note-taking, photocopying, organizing, collecting timesheets, faxing letters, note-taking, and maintaining hospital filing system);
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Consenting of patients for telemedicine-based research studies;
  • Correspondence with research ethic boards;
  • Assists in maintaining the clinical and research registries of IBD participants receiving services under the PACE IBD telemedicine program;
  • Assist in research data collection and report generation under the direction of the IBD telemedicine coordinator;
  • Collects clinical and quality indicator data to assess the effectiveness of the telemedicine program;
  • Coordinate scheduling of the telemedicine consultations and schedules telemedicine visits using the Ontario Telemedicine Network portal;
  • Assists the patient and health care provider with required paperwork prior to the telemedicine consultation, as indicated in the telemedicine policies and procedures;
  • Review clinical charts prior to telemedicine visits and facilitate such visits;
  • Assists with providing public relation support for the marketing of IBD telemedicine services;
  • Coordinate other research and administrative activities in the investigator’s research program;
  • Serve as coordinator for telemonitoring if IBD inpatients following their discharge.


  • Undergraduate degree in health-related discipline (nursing degree preferred);
  • Background in scientific methodology or prior research experience desirable;
  • Experience in a clinical healthcare environment and/or a clinical research setting; 
  • OTN certification for providing patient care via telemedicine is highly desirable;
  • Excellent computer skills and an ability to learn and comprehend the technical requirements for the telemedicine systems. Must be willing to obtain and maintain Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) certifications;
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access is required;
  • General knowledge of clinic scheduling systems;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Excellent organization and time management skills;
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinical team members, administrative and research staff;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercises discretion, uses independent and mature judgment, work independently without supervision and commits to excellence.
