The lab of Dr. Daniel Durocher (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute) is currently seeking a candidate to fill a position of research technician to support its active research program on DNA repair, cell cycle and synthetic lethality. The Durocher lab is a world-class laboratory studying how damaged DNA is repaired, with the greater goal of understanding how its dysregulation contributes to diseases such as cancer. The successful candidate will assist various projects in the lab, with roughly half the time dedicated to a research collaboration between the laboratory and an oncology drug development company. The other half will be dedicated supporting lab activities that include experiment work on other research projects, maintenance of the tissue culture facility and of the Durocher lab’s small mouse colony. The tasks will be varied and conducted in a multidisciplinary and collegial atmosphere.

While the position is advertised for the Tech III or Tech IV scales, we encourage interested applicants with less or more experience or qualifications to apply.


Research project duties

  • Conduct tissue culture experiments, generate cell lines, undertake CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing experiments, drug sensitivity assays.
  • Conduct cell biology experiments, including microscopy, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence stainings.
  • Conduct other types of experiments such as molecular cloning, immunoblotting, basic recombinant protein purification.

Lab support duties

  • Help maintain and organize the tissue culture facility (hood, incubators, storage areas, supplies)
  • Help maintain a small mouse colony.
  • Document all experiments, samples, and machine operations according to designated
  • Prepare stock reagents, maintain supply inventory, perform routine cleaning of laboratory instrume



  • B.Sc. with at least 5 years of relevant experience or M.Sc. with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of mammalian cell line culture work
  • Must have a practical understanding of molecular biology and cloning
  • Must have practical experience with mouse husbandry
  • Must have familiarity or experience with gene editing and cell biology techniques
  • Must have familiarity or experience with viral tissue culture methods
  • Good microscopy skills would be considered an asset
  • The successful applicant will also have strong organizational skills, strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) and be able to work independently
  • Must be a team player, versatile, flexible, and self-motivated with strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance record
