The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health System, a University of Toronto affiliated research centre, is one of the world's leading centres in biomedical research.  With ground-breaking discoveries in research areas such as diabetes, genetic disorders, cancer and women’s and infants’ health, the Institute is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators.  Strong partnerships with the clinical programs of Mount Sinai Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital ensure that scientific knowledge is used to promote human health. 

Within the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, the Collaboratory for Research and Innovation has a focus on health services research and is addressing questions and issues related to the intersection of multimorbidity, social determinants and health system factors. 

The Collaboratory, located on the Hennick Bridgepoint campus, is leading a new field of study strategically designed to respond to one of the most pressing areas of need for healthcare research in Ontario, Canada and the world: examining ways to improve the care and the entire life experience of patients living with complex chronic health conditions. Your significant contributions will assist in maintaining momentum toward advancing our research mission.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and alongside other team members within the Collaboratory. They will work independently and effectively to produce high quality research, documents, communication and overall coordination.

 

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares materials for submission to regulatory agencies, including the research ethics boards.
  • Assists team staff (Research Coordinator) and Principal Investigator in the logistical management of a clinical trial, including acquisition of supplies, inventory management and strategic planning.
  • Acts as a liaison between study sites, participants and research team and is responsible for study scheduling, recruitment, enrollment and tracking of study participants.
  • Supports administration of study assessments
  • Develops, maintains, and updates project records and databases accurately, while safeguarding the confidentiality and protection of sensitive data with integrity.
  • Supports data collection for research study sites under supervision of the managing Research Coordinator and Principal Investigator. Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis skills an asset.
  • Maintains meticulous study documents and other research files
  • Assists the supervising Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator in preparing reports of study progress.
  • Manages and replies to project-related correspondence in a timely manner. This may include correspondence with staff, research participants, and research partners. 
  • Other duties, as required. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in a health related field
  • Master’s degree in a health related and/or research field preferred. Current graduate students are encouraged to apply
  • Background in mental health and trauma preferred
  • Fluency in French and English is required
  • Demonstrated success in research settings over the course of at least 1 year
  • Must be a resident of Ontario 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High personal motivation, self-management, and detail-orientation; ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines
  • Strong interviewing skills for conducting study assessments
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision, problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research
  • Ability to understand and interpret scientific data
  • Ability to work remotely (via Zoom and other video-calling software)
  • Some background and knowledge in qualitative methodologies in particular with interest in developing qualitative data collection and analysis skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office programs and survey management software. Experience with research software such as NVivo is an asset.
  • High level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates respect toward all colleagues and study participants
  • Ability to work flexible hours – some evening/weekend work may be required
