POSITION TITLE  Research Assistant III
DEPARTMENT  Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care
EMPLOYMENT TYPE  Temporary Full-Time (12 month contract with the possibility of renewal)
HOURS OF WORK  37.5 hours per week
EMPLOYEE GROUP  Non-union
REPORTS TO  Research Manager

Reporting to the Research Manager, the Research Assistant III will provide research assistance to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care’s research team. This position is an integral role within the team to assist with new and ongoing research and quality improvement projects at the centre.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day activities and procedures of assigned projects
  • Review and synthesize literature, maintain a repository of literature for individual projects and manuscripts
  • Recruit participants as required by study procedures
  • Assist with data collection, such as reviewing charts, conducting interviews or extracting data from the electronic medical record
  • Support data analysis through data entry and validation, prepare quantitative and/or qualitative data files
  • Create and/or maintain clinical database(s) from multiple sources to support research, quality improvement and clinical initiatives
  • Schedule and organize meetings with members of the Research Team and collaborators, prepare meeting materials and take meeting notes
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining research ethics documents for studies
  • Assist in interpreting of results and preparing of material for presentation, publication or grants
  • Assist in development of data collection tools such as online surveys and creating templates with the electronic medical record
  • Assist in data management in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Communicate in a professional manner with all staff at the Centre
  • Manage priorities and meet project deadlines
  • Operate equipment in a safe working manner. Practice good safety and housekeeping habits and demonstrate familiarity with disaster, fire, search and other emergency procedures. Promptly report accidents or incidents and cooperate fully in any investigation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences or other relevant area
  • Master’s degree is an asset
  • 1 to 3 years of experience is an asset

 

Skills/Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of clinical research processes
  • Excellent data management skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set up priorities, to be flexible in workflow and to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to support several concurrent projects
  • Capable of exercising sound judgement, discretion and initiative in dealing with confidential information, and taking initiative to complete responsibilities with instruction
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Capacity to adapt to new technologies quickly
  • Experience working on an electronic medical record system is an asset
  • Competent using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Familiarity with Access is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Endnote, MaxQDA, SAS or SPSS, QI Macro is an asset
  • Solid work ethic, and demonstrated work performance and attendance history
