Position Overview

As a member of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Unit (IDERU), the epidemiologist collaborates with other staff to manage, verify and clean data, export data to collaborators, design and develop data collection tools, create statistical analysis plans, and carry out data analysis for IDERU projects. The epidemiologist also conducts relevant literature reviews, and drafts study reports and manuscripts.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages large data sets including extraction, manipulation, and data analysis
  • Writes and executes computer programs for data extraction, data verification, and data merging and analysis using statistical software packages (e.g., R, STATA, SAS).
  • Designs and develops data collection tools and databases according to research protocol
  • Coordinates data cleaning
  • Supports clinical coordinators by understanding data collection and entry challenges, and modifying databases as needed
  • Prepares datasets for analysis by internal and external investigators and staff
  • Works with investigators and research managers to develop statistical analysis plans
  • Carries out statistical analysis according to research protocols and/or investigator’s requests
  • Prepares and reviews analytic output (e.g., tables and reports)
  • Drafts study reports and manuscripts
  • Reviews relevant literature as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Medical Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Public Health with strong quantitative component
  • Two years of previous experience with data management
  • Advanced skills in programming using statistical software -SAS (including SQL, SAS macros), STATA or R.
  • Experience with complex statistical data analysis
  • Advanced analytical skills and an aptitude for accuracy, detail and problem-solving
  • Experience with development of databases (EpiInfo, Access) is a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of various sources of biases in data
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication / documentation of code (analyses)
  • Prior experience working on COVID-19 or infectious disease related research preferred
