ORGANIZATION OR DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Infection Diseases Epidemiology Research Unit (IDERU) is a division of the Department of Microbiology and Infection Control. Our research is focused on new and emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, influenza and other vaccine preventable diseases.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a member of the Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Research Unit (IDERU), the successful applicant will coordinate the activities of a series of linked studies of COVID-19 in Canada.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruits, instructs, and coordinates participants across study sites
- Communicates with participants to ensure study data are valid and collected on time and that participants are retained
- Coordinates the flow of study documents, data, samples, and results
- Implements and maintains quality control processes
- Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required for researchers and/or regulatory bodies
- Provides timely feedback and communicates potential problems regarding goals and target dates to meet project timelines
- Works with data analyst and study team to ensure accuracy and completeness of data
- Liaises with collaborating laboratories, investigators and other study and laboratory staff
- Ensures that REB approvals are maintained
- Adheres to protocol requirements, privacy standards, regulatory, hospital, and ethics board policies and requirements
- Performs other related duties as required to meet study goals and timelines
- Ability to work flexible hours, if required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience
- Project coordination experience required
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
- Excellent attention to detail required
- Demonstrated excellence in participant recruitment and retention required (customer service skills are paramount)
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently
- Above-average problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
- Collaborative team player
- Highly proficient with computer software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Must have or complete TCPS2 and GCP training
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
- Ability to speak French is an asset, but not required
In accordance with Institute’s policy and legislated health and safety requirements, employment is conditional upon the verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and demonstrating proof of immunity and vaccination status of vaccine-preventable diseases. All employees and affiliates will follow safe work practices and comply with health and safety policies, procedures, and training. Successful candidates will be required to provide two (2) written reference letters from their former employer(s)/supervisor(s).
A recent Provincial Directive mandates all employees of public hospitals in Ontario to be either fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or be regularly tested. All new employees joining Sinai Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and be on track toward full vaccination within six (6) weeks; participating in mandatory twice weekly Rapid Antigen Testing Program until fully vaccinated. There are very limited circumstances in which approval will be given for a medical exemption from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
