The Campbell Lab (https://www.camlab.ca) is searching for an enthusiastic associate/postdoctoral fellow to work at the interface of single-cell and spatial data analysis and computational methods development. Based at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health System and the Departments of Molecular Genetics and Statistical Sciences, University of Toronto, we are a highly collaborative group working on applications of machine in translational biomedicine, with a focus on single-cell and cancer genomics.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We have an opening for a research associate/postdoctoral fellow (depending on experience) to work leading multiple exciting collaborative projects on single cell and spatial genomics. The successful applicant will develop state-of-the-art computational analyses for a range of unpublished and published datasets, communicating with collaborators and iterating over designs. There is also scope for significant original computational methods development, depending on applicant experience and interests, following our lab’s strong track record in this area. The applicant will be encouraged to attend national and international conferences to present work and network with the community, as well as publish results in journals. Depending on experience, the applicant will have the opportunity to mentor junior researchers within the group. This position will be supported by a competitive salary and access to state of the art compute infrastructure as well as the thriving machine learning community in Toronto’s discovery district.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop state-of-the-art analysis pipelines for single-cell transcriptomic and spatial ‘omic data
  • Development of novel computational methods to understand single-cell heterogeneity
  • Development of techniques to design marker panels from high dimensional ‘omic data
  • Communicate and iterate analysis taking feedback from multiple project collaborators
  • Write and publish research papers in journals
  • Attend and present work at international conferences
  • Mentor junior researchers in the group

 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

  • A strong computational background with a bachelors/masters/PhD in computational biology, biostatistics, or related fields
  • Evidence of advanced computer programming capability using Python and/or R within a research setting.
  • An appreciation or enthusiasm for single-cell biology and computational methods development
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills through experience of working within a scientific research team or collaboration.

 

Desired:

  • A track record of publications in computational biology
  • Experience analyzing single cell or spatial expression data in R or Python
  • Experience using bioinformatic workflow managers such as Snakemake or Nextflow
  • Experience managing collaborative projects and mentoring junior researchers
