The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Sinai Health in Toronto seeks a highly motivated and talented Proteomics Research Associate to join the Network Biology Collaborative Centre (NBCC) in Toronto. The ideal candidate will be able to design, execute and interpret proteomics experiments for the research team and/or external partners and contribute to developing new technologies.

 

The Network Biology Collaborative Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that provides scientists with a functional understanding of genes and gene products in human health. It comprises complementary facilities that can be used reciprocally to flesh out protein function in health and disease states. As a Proteomics Research Associate, you will work under the direction of Dr. Anne-Claude Gingras, a renowned expert in protein-protein interactions and cell signalling. The proteomics facility of the NBCC provides collaboration, expert advice, service, training, and open access to advanced mass spectrometry technologies to the local and national scientific community. Our facility currently houses six mass spectrometers, all equipped with NanoLC systems: a Bruker timsTOF SCP, a Bruker timsTOF Pro 2, a Thermo Fusion Lumos Orbitrap, and 3 SCIEX TripleTOF 6600 mass spectrometers. Our team contributed their proteomics expertise to >90 publications in the past 5 years. We work closely as a team and value complementarity in backgrounds and expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform proteomic experiments, including sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, and data analysis
  • Interpret results and report findings to Dr. Gingras and other members of the research team and external partners
  • Develop new workflows, or bring in new technology from the outside, to enhance the analytical capabilities of the proteomics facility.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain LC-MS instrumentation
  • Maintain accurate records of all experiments and results
  • Participate in the preparation of scientific reports, papers, grants and presentations
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in proteomics and related fields
  • Advise facility users on experimental design, execution and interpretation
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior lab staff and trainee users of the proteomics facility
  • Contribute to the general running of the proteomics facility

 

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field
  • 2+ (Ph.D) or 5+ (M.Sc.) years in a relevant research and/or development environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact successfully with team members from a wide variety of functional areas and diverse expertise levels
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Experience with biochemistry sample preparation, including protein extraction, digestion, affinity enrichment, separation technologies
  • Experience with data analysis for mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Alternatively, strong experience with data analysis and programming and/or statistical analysis.
  • Experience with LC-MS/MS instrumentation is strongly preferred
  • Strong background in molecular biology or related field to enable higher level interpretation of proteomics results
