TCP has an opening for a temporary (16 month contract) full time Animal Care Attendant to start in May 2023. Reporting to the Supervisor, Animal Husbandry, the incumbent is responsible for basic animal husbandry duties for laboratory mice and responsible for their overall health and welfare.  A variety of animal health care duties are required such as general husbandry including cage changing, daily health checks on all animals in assigned rooms and identifying changes in animal health or deviations in normal behaviour. Other responsibilities include: working cooperatively with scientific staff and fellow team members; stocking supplies and general upkeep of assigned holding rooms and procedure rooms; maintaining detailed records; working with a specialized colony management database and reporting all failures to follow SOPs immediately to supervisor.  The incumbent will work as a team to maintain the overall cleanliness and efficiency of the vivarium – including but not limited to: cleaning and disinfecting animal rooms, procedure rooms and equipment.  The work is conducted in a highly regulated environment according to standard operating procedures.  Options for flexible work hours or a condensed 4 day work week is available!

Successful candidates will be required to provide two (2) written reference letters from their former employer(s)/supervisor(s).

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our people and patients, Sinai Health has made it a priority to support everyone in getting vaccinated against COVID-19. Consistent with this, our Staff Immunization & Surveillance Policy was recently updated to include the requirement for full vaccination – currently defined as receiving two doses and serving a 14-day waiting period following the second dose – in order to be able to work at Sinai Health. To be compliant with our updated Policy, you must provide proof of dual COVID-19 vaccination, as indicated on the Prospective Immunization and Surveillance Policy Information Sheet, in order to be eligible for employment at Sinai Health. If you believe you are one of the very few people who may require an exemption from vaccination, supporting medical information must be submitted to our Occupational Health department, who will review and assess.
