Position Overview:

We welcome applications for a Research Assistant I to join the scaling Up OBRI-IBD research registry led by Dr. Laura Targownik (Principal Investigator at LTRI). The esearch Assistant plays an integral role in developing evidence-based treatments for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and relevant comorbidities in this large, multi-site research registry . The successful candidate will be assisting in all delegated study activities/recruitment in this role.


Responsibilities of the Research Assistant include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain regular and strong communication with the research team, providers, clinicians, and referral pathways
  • Prepare written correspondence, reports, and presentations using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Perform other general office-related duties as required (e.g., faxing, photocopying, organizing, and maintaining the filing system)
  • Recruitment and scheduling of research participants
  • Conduct safety assessments when required
  • Administration and collection of research questionnaires
  • Monitor and maintain research logs, deadlines, and schedules with attention to detail
  • Troubleshoot and provide onsite technical assistance to any participant concerns with the online data collection system
  • Data collection/entry
  • Assist in the preparation of research reports and peer-review process



  • Successful completion of a University degree in a relevant field, e.g., psychology
  • minimum of one year of recent (within the past year) and related experience in a research environment
  • Research experience in IBD disease and mental health or clinical setting is an asset
  • Recent experience interacting with and recruiting participants in clinical or mental health settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; high levels of responsiveness and strong attention to detail
  • Experience with REDCap and risk assessments as an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills
  • Self-directed with an ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with the flexibility to adjust to priorities
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work with a variety of individuals cooperatively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history



Safety Requirement

  • Maintain personal certifications as required by Safety Office
  • Maintain the lab’s Safety requirements as required by Safety Office
  • Maintain current lab-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) - including work with hazardous chemicals and biological agents, hazardous waste disposal, etc.
  • Maintain the lab’s chemical Inventory
  • Responsible for training the lab members on lab-specific procedures, weekly eye wash checks
