Job Summary: 

The Clinical Research Data Specialist (REDCap Coordinator and Data Manager) will be responsible for managing core services related to REDCap to support clinical research projects across Sinai Health. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining the Cloud-based REDCap database in conjunction with the Information Technology department. The ideal candidate will have a strong database management and programming background and a solid clinical research and data collection understanding. The position reports to the Deputy Director of Clinical Research, Sinai Health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop standard processes for the implementation and maintenance of REDCap services.

• Develop, implement, and maintain REDCap databases to support research and clinical data management needs.

• Meet with clinical researchers to coordinate study protocols and data requirements.

• Oversee incoming REDCap Cloud projects, review for REB compliance, and monitor projects for changes and compliance.

• Onboard and train research staff to follow best data entry, management, and extraction practices.

• Coordinate development of (and/or develop and program) a data governance framework, data collection instruments, surveys, and reporting from REDCap.

• Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and user experience.

• Develop processes that are compliant with principles of research integrity, security, and privacy, including REB requirements, PHIPA , and other applicable standards and institutional policies.

• Stay updated with the latest REDCap features, updates, and best practices, and implement these into the hospital’s workflows.

Skills/ Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Informatics, or a related field (alternatively, individuals with a background in other health research fields with extensive hands-on experience with REDCap will be considered)

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with REDCap database management and programming.

• Strong understanding of database design and management principles.

• Experience with data security and compliance in a healthcare setting.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse team of healthcare professionals.

• Knowledge of clinical research methodologies and regulatory requirements is a plus.

• Experience in designing and managing longitudinal and cross-sectional studies.

• Familiarity with automated export procedures and integration of REDCap with other data analysis tools like SPSS, SAS, Stata, or R.

• Experience with mobile data collection using REDCap Mobile App.

• Knowledge of some of the following: PHP and HTML scripting, MySQL or equivalent, various Web servers, API, Web and Cyber security,  email and file server protocols, CSV, JSON, or XML

• Experience with Encryption and other data security models.
