User Credentials on CONTACTDB

The CONTACTDB domain serves predominantly the many Web applications.  There are two categories of accounts on this domain: user-generated accounts (created in self-serve mode) and administratively-assigned accounts.  Both categories have access to the same procedures for account resets and password changes.  They differ only at the high level access privileges.

Each time a user signs on, some statistics about the account are flashed on the screen.  One very important statistc is information about the amount of time left before the password expires.  As the expiry date nears — starting at four weeks before it — the sign-on screen pauses to help the user take note of the impending expiry of the password.

If at sign-on an incorrect password is entered three times in a row, the account becomes locked out and must be reset using the Account Reset procedure outlined further below.

User passwords are never stored in plain text; they are irreversibly scrambled and only a digest key is stored.  Our Operators can not "recover" forgotten passwords.

Tips

If the Sign-on is not successful, no explanation is displayed to the user (due to Security Policy implementation):

  • please verify that you are signing on to the correct domain — some Sites use this service in parallel with alternate authentication services located on other domains;

  • please double-check the spelling of the username and ensure that the password is entered correctly; the passwords are case-sensitive, the usernames are not;

  • if everything checks out, the password could have expired or the account became locked out for other reason — try the Account-Reset Procedure followed by the Password-Change (once you've received the new temporary password);

  • if you continue being rejected or if you suspect possible illegal activity, please request the DB Admin to investigate the problem.
